Postcard from Lincoln Country

Learning art’s lie

Reading on the point of a spear

that smote my pretext of recovery

unloads the burden of my poetic obligation to you.

The text is hollowing out a space

where the sublimity of art drains the pen

of purposefulness

of sentimental journey.

Reading the text:

the lines endeavor to undo

the trace of a commitment

for which the ink

once shed a tear of sorrow.

And the tear drinking the ink:

reading will be healed by the pretext

that smote the lines that made you

an object of a love thesis.
